August 25, 2018 - When the capsule came off there was no leakage in the cork. The cork was very soft and came apart using a traditional corkscrew. Using it in combination with a two-pronged fork got it out without any fragments going into the bottle.
The color looked right for a village Burgundy with this amount of age but the nose showed a good bit of VA. By giving it an aggressive decant, lots of extra swirls of the glass and simply giving the wine time in the vessels the wine finally came around. Very dry, a little fruit and lots of the earth one expects from Burgundy, especially a mature one. I have 4 more of these bottles and will give them at least a couple of hours before going in for a taste. Hopefully that patience will be rewarded, too.617 views
