Community Tasting Note

  • kevrob822 Likes this wine: 90 points

    August 29, 2018 - Popped and did a fast 1-pass decant.

This is a dark red/black color with a pretty big dark fruit and cherry aroma. Taste follows the aroma nicely with black fruit and minerals, somewhat heavy in oak, with med-low acidity and smooth tannins. All in all, this is powerful, but still very smooth and balanced and even though it’s 15.2%, there’s no heat at all. I really do like wines from Monte Russo.

I’d give it 90/91 Points and a Very Good QPR. Not sure this is the “95” that Steve Heimoff gave it, I’m much more in the 90 Point camp of Wine Enthusiast. And while this is probably the most expensive Cameron Hughes I’ve ever bought (I like to get them from Costco with the substantial savings), this is also probably the highest score I've given a CH Cabernet.

8/31/18, 8:29 AM - Thanks for the tasting note. I will have to try one of my 2013's. The 2012 Monte Rosso's are fabulous.... As for the SH rating he gives out 90+ like they are free toothpaste at the dentisit office. My feeling is 92-93 is a good rating on this wine.
