September 21, 2018 - I have to admit I'm not really a fan of malbec because of the metallic taste and austere profile I often find in the wine, and this bottle had both in spades. Very dark fruits that were overwhelmed by the high acidity, angular profile, astringency and general lack of richness or ripeness. That said, it was much better with food than by itself, in this case it paired nicely with the beef short-ribs we had. Even though I know this is a very good and well-made wine, I don't find it appealing. Perhaps it will mellow over time and I would wait for another couple of years to drink it. I won't post a score as I would give it a 92 for wine quality, but only about 88 for enjoyment.

10/12/18, 5:21 PM - I agree with this assessment. It is a very good wine but I am struggling with how much I like Malbec compared to a Pinot Noir or Cabernet or Grenache or Gamay or Syrah. I tasted this wine over an hour after opening and at first found it quite closed and not ready to drink. Over the hour it opened up with dark fruit and some - as James Suckling says - graphite, teabag, and mushroom tastes. It is a fruit forward powerful, balanced wine that leaves you thinking not so much about the fruit as the other tastes that are present. It is clearly balanced. But enjoyable? I will see how it changes in 24 hours.
