September 26, 2018 - Pretty nice wine. Medium body and youthful. Moderately opaque. Not a ton going on for the nose. Basic dark fruit and not overpowering. Lacking any sort of perfumed scents or spice notes but there is a faint backdrop of chocolate on the nose. Fruit profile is okay. Subdued blackberry lased with a bit of black cherry. Hints of chocolate and anise on the palate. Fruit is subdued and not overly forward like alot of CA Cabs at this pricepoint so that is good for me. Funny thing is on the first taste out of the bottle it seemed like there was a backdrop of salt/sodium but that dissopated.
There is good mouthfeel and clear tannic structure. Overall though it is missing something for me. No transcendent moments here for me. Pretty well balanced but theres an stringent kind of fruit rind on the finish and aftertaste that doesn't sit great for me.
It's a fair value at the $20 price point but I dont find it anything particularly special. Would I buy again? Not sure. If I had to go Cab at this price point, I wouldn't reject it but if I had a selection, I'd probably steer to a good Syrah, Southern Rhone of a Super Tuscan in the same $ range before I'd pick this up again.
