October 28, 2018 - Having this for 8 years untouched in my cellar, I could no longer resist the temptation and decided to open it!
Just wow! Grapes: 80% Aglianico , 20% Piedirosso. Color: very dark with some evolution. Very complex nose: plum, black cherries, cassis, black olive tapenade, tobacco, smoke, oak, game, leather, pepper, volcanic earth, ash, graphite, very - very mineral. I could smell this all evening. Mouth: starts with fruit followed by beautiful acidity and then all black fruits with very mineral impression and then the tannins kick you in the face. You can almost taste the volcanic soil. Very full bodied but not over the top, medium+ acidity, massive tannins, very long (35 seconds). This wine has multiple layers and is incredibly structured. This wine is very young but I did not regret opening one. What a luxury wine this is - now I understand why this is one of Italy's cult producers! Very terroir driven wine!
