Community Tasting Note

December 22, 2018 - Opened for dinner tonight - my last bottle.

Roasted red & black fruit, along with a dash o' funk on an interesting nose.

This comes across as lighter-bodied than the '98 Conterno, but still has decent acidity and a lengthy finish. Not as complex a wine, but still drinking well at this time.

12/23/18, 10:41 AM - A day 2 glass; that funky note still persists today - I would guess a modest amount of brett, but at this level I find it adds to the overall aroma on the nose.

On the palate, that mix of roasted black & red fruit still comes to the fore. I guess in retrospect, the heat of this vintage has tended to moderate some of your typical Nebbiolo qualities, so if this was served blind, I have doubts that I could identify the grape. That said, as long as you aren't dogmatic about what a grape needs to taste like, this is still a pretty nice glass of wine as we near it's 30th birthday, which is not bad for a bottle that cost $26 on release.
