January 18, 2019 - Needed 3 and a half hours in the decanter to open up. Blackberry and liquorice predominate, with low notes of dark red fruits, smoke and light meat. Whilst underpinned by a faint edged spine of sweet red fruit, the palate isn’t as dense as anticipated, it lacks layers and complexity and fails on the back palate. I have enjoyed this but it isn’t a blockbuster. Back of the label says enjoy with rib-eye and yes I think that would be perfect to carry the back palate through. It will live another 5 years or so easily enough but it is at the starting window. I’ll try again 2021.
