March 12, 2019 - Decanted for initial 90 mins. This is a powerful potent Syrah that is still in blocks. Alcohol on the nose and a bit of a burn on the finish. Dark blue and black fruits are present but restrained. Tannins are fine and drying. Acidity is under the surface but not acidic. Three hours later this is reminiscent of Pax and Saxum better efforts. There is also a polish to this wine, no doubt from the oak. Well made. Will be buying more.

7/4/19, 9:29 AM - Francois: Relatively speaking to very good quality, mid-tier Cali cabs & syrahs - Phantom Creek reds are probably decent value where one is now paying 100USD for well-structured, complex and concentrated wines. I like a little acidity in my reds - I'm tired of these big plush reds that subsequently tire my palate after a glass or two. I still prefer a WA State Red Mountain Cab or Walla Walla / Rocks Syrah. WA is probably the better regional comparison and the Phantom Creek lineup will be competitively/fully priced. That being said, we have some of the Becker & Phantom Creek Cabs lying down and are waiting for it to come around. The Syrah was very good and we look forward to trying a couple more bottles of it in the winter. The folks at WineAlign just assessed the current releases and came away generally positive (although they appear to be taking advtg $ from the winery). Next tasting will be the Merlot... stay tuned.
