March 9, 2019 - Bordeaux 2016 II: A second look at the 2016 confirmed my inital assessment from a tasting back in November: a) they‘re very deep, b) with perfectly ripe, fine tannins, c) a very good, well-integrated acidity and d) an incredible balance and elegance even at this young stage also thanks to a low(er) alcohol level (than in 2009 or 2015). They‘re outerwordly good and a lot of the wines tasted were quite accessible. In my opinion, they‘re clearly ahead of the 2015 vintage (better, i.e. lower ripeness level; lower alcohol; more elegance). Best wine today was the Leoville Las Cases (98+) on par with the Pichon Comtesse back in November. Honorable mentions for the Figeac (97+), Carmes Haut Brion (96+), the Pape Clement (best ever at 95+) and an again singular Yquem (97+).

Short TN: Oh, now we‘re talking. This wine, even though its a bit more closed than other wines, is so deep, dark and powerful with so much pressure of dark fruit, dark forest berries, blackberry candy, licorice, so much terroir expression, cedar, cool and classic style. Massive but weightless, deep and long. Ultra promising and together with the Pichon Comtesse the best of the bunch I tasted so far. 98++.

9/7/19, 11:02 PM - I never try a wine young and normally would wait to 2028 to taste it.
Lately I have been buying 2 or 3 375's to try earlier than the approachable date.
Saving the the 750's 1.5s and 3Ltr's for much later.
How long should wait to pop my first 375?
I don't want to do it too soon.

9/9/19, 6:17 AM - If you have half bottles, bottles and large formats, there's no harm in opening one of the half bottles now (try to follow it over two days at least) to get a first idea of the wine, to get a first reference point. It believe that these reference points are important to understand when the wine will be ready, when it will reach its peak in your opinion. In addition, I think the more reference points you have the higher level of enjoyment you will be able to draw from future encounters with the wine. So with the luxury of owning enough stock of this wine, go for it! :)
