April 3, 2019 - I last wrote a TN for this wine in 2012 and I'm amazed at how similar it still is today! A really lovely wine, the 2009 Pegau is deep blackish-purple with a strikingly aromatic nose centered on a blackberry compote, crème de cassis and spice cake, but with all sorts of nuanced notes: melted licorice, Provençal herbs, black chocolate. On the palate, you are reminded of plum torte yet the level of acidity and tannins keep the fruit in check -- an almost Burgundian palate. Very long finish. This really is a great Pegau… I bought 12 and should have gone for 24. Given the slow pace of evolution, you can drink it now but it will still be a stunner 10 years from now.
