April 5, 2019 - Medium yellow. Typical Chasselas bouquet - perhaps more of a mineral suggestion than others. Smooth entry, fills nicely to soft mid-palate of orchard fruit that transitions into a moderately long mineral inflected final that suggests a trace of acidity that is otherwise lacking (typical of Chasselas).

Intense, purity of fruit is readily seen and felt here, like all of M. Paccot's wines (cultivated in a manner that approaches biodynamic viticulture). Would like to taste this alongside his Petit Clos - my feeling is I prefer Petit Clos and the main difference is this is more mineral. Either way, if one can leave aside a relative lack of acidity which is a fact for all Chasselas, this is a lovely expression of the grape.

4/6/19, 7:43 AM - I had the opportunity to taste the 2015 Brez vs the 2015 Petit Clos (as well as the 2015 Bayel), and I preferred the Brez and Bayel to the Petit Clos. In 2017 on the other hand, I felt the Petit Clos was the better (short-term) option compared to the Brez, but then the Brez tends to be longer lived and needs a few years to open. YMMV

4/12/19, 12:35 AM - Thanks Christopher - I've read your other notes on M. Paccot's wines with interest. He is a talented winemaker and I expect he's passed on a great deal of savoir faire to Laura, who is transitioning in to the role of winemaker for the domaine.

One day I'll get a bit more systematic in my exploration of his Chasselas wines and do a proper blind tasting. Thanks again for your comments.

4/12/19, 6:51 AM - I agree with you David. He is very talented. I also agree that he will have passed on a lot of his savoir faire to Laura, but I do admit to a slight concern, as she has expressed preferring wines slightly less civilised and more “nature qui révèlent de la minéralité et apporte une texture plus déliée”. It is that last part that concerns me a bit, so I’ll stock up on the 2018 which should be the last vintage entirely in Raymond’s hands just in case. :-)

Laura has taken over the vineyards in 2019 and will be selling fruit to Raymond till 2021 when she takes over the cellar as well. Looking forward to tasting her wines, though hope they don’t change too too much.
