June 15, 2019 - Deep burgundy red with high optical density and reflectivity. Really appealing nose with good intensity. Red fruits and spices swirl around, with raspberry, cranberry, and some sour cherry over an earthy baking spice bed. A sense of rhubarb and cinnamon as well. Decent complexity. The palate is fresh, with vibrant, almost bracing acidity and a light, dancing body that races around. Tannins are there but muted, allowing a plush and even texture to shine through the zingy acidity and tang. Flavours of bright cherry and raspberry on the attack with nice intensity but pretty flat complexity. Juicy and easy going entry. The midpalate picks up some spices on top of the fruit and some light and clean tobacco smoke, but stays pretty simple. Things finish with a twist of tart cherry and lightly spiced toasted notes, but fall off quickly and leaves a clean short finish with some tangy sappy character. Overall decent intensity in a simple format, with classic PN notes and a bracing NZ styling.

This is nice. Not amazingly deep or contemplative, but easy to drink and super refreshing. Well made and fun, this provides a very New Zealand experience and represents a decent value. Ready to drink and enjoy now, this is a red you can pair with a warm day and light and fresh foods.
