June 26, 2019 - Decided to try a 2013 HSS a decade or two too soon, especially given the vintage. Had 2 ounces upon opening and a little more after a 3 hour slow ox. Super disappointed at first, escpecially considering this was my bottle of choice to take to a wine group. Literally had nothing going on the first few hours. Decided to wait another couple of hours. To my amazment the HSS came alive and was one of the best HSS ever. Heavy mineral notes, elegant tannins and a most unique flavor profile, unlike anything I’ve tried in Napa. Overwhelmingly the WOTN, beating out some high end Bordeauxs. My take on this vintage is that with patience this wine will develop into something approaching 99-100. I can’t stress enough how much this wine benefited from several hours of exposure after opening. I would consider this particular vintage unique to HSS and definitely a throwback to a more subtle and elequent style, more consistent with a classic Bordeaux than to some of the high octane Napa cabs of late.
