August 9, 2019 - Beautiful Chianti Classico from the Panzano area. Tried it after several hours in the glass. The nose is clean, medium (+) in intensity and quite expressive, with aromas of ripe red cherry, black plums, dried herbs and a pleasant but subtle oak spice note from 18 months in French oak barrels. The palate is dry, consistent with the nose, with medium (+) acidity, tannins and alcohol. This is a medium (+) to full-bodied wine with great balance and finesse, medium (+) flavor intensity and length. It is entering its optimal drinking window and is likely to continue to show well for several more years. It is not a particularly good value at $47, the retail price I was quoted in Houston. But I would be very happy if i bought it at $30 or lower, or even in the mid $30s.

Regarding the cost, you're also paying for a premier label (of Flaccianello fame) within the region. Average US retail is $40 before tax, so $47 isn't a great price, but you're not getting fleeced either..
