August 20, 2019 - I just had a glass of the '09 Castellare Il Poggiale, and the vintage differences between these two wines couldn't be more stark. While that wine drinks well, if somewhat outsized given the vintage, this wine is all about cool restraint. Light-bodied on the palate, with red fruit & menthol, the flavor profile here is quintessential classic Chianti. I'm snacking on some Moliterno cheese as I taste these wines, and that is a heavenly combination with this wine. No telling how long this will last, but unfortunately, I have gone through most of my stash, so no chance to see how this eventually ages.

8/24/19, 10:33 AM - Another glass of this wine four days after opening, and it has put on some weight and the fruit is a little darker-toned. Very nice, and given how well this is tasting today, probably capable of providing a fine drinking experience for another decade.
