September 23, 2019 - Pretty overwhelming, and easily the most complex domestic sauvignon blanc I've ever had. Zero cat pee, zero "this is making me drool" salivary attack, all flavor not yet unpacked from its considerable structure. I have two more bottles that I need to bury for a while -- even though this drank pretty well after a couple of hours i was aware that this might need some time to unfold its wings. Highly recommended.

10/13/19, 10:03 PM - how does this compare to say Realm Fidelio or Arkenstone sauv. blanc?

  • ledocq commented:

10/13/19, 10:41 PM - Not a clue. Looks like the Fidelio $90, so I'd hope it's better than this, which is $46. Arkenstone prices look closer to this one. I've heard the Mondavi I Block is the one to try next.

10/13/19, 10:56 PM - Thanks. I had the Mondavi I-Block I didn't think it was good, honestly I would skip it. I have tried many Sauv. Blancs from California, and the First Tier: Melka, Realm, Arkenstone; Second Tier: Merry Edwards, Ilumination (from Quintessa), and Riverain.
I've tried many others but I won't list them as I just I wouldn't recommend them.

10/14/19, 8:00 AM - Cool - thanks for the tips. I'm learning about domestic SB, and have Brilliant Mistake and Correlation on deck. For the price point, Jean Edwards is very very good. Most other SBs just sort of pass me by. I just realized the only other SBs I've liked enough to leave tasting notes on are all by Mike Smith!

11/5/19, 7:08 PM - I'm a huge fan of Peter Michael's Apres Midi. And while you can't directly compare it to a Semillon-SB blend, Morlet's Proportion Doree is terrific, albeit subject to a lot of variation from year to year.
