October 12, 2019 - The somewhat reticent nose offers blackberry, tobacco leaf, brambleberry, boysenberry and black pepper. It’s full bodied but elevated by bright acid and kept linear by long, fine grained tannin. Like the structure, the flavors are at a junior stage of development as well. This really deserves another five-plus years of cellaring. Right now there is savory notes of black olive, saline, graphite and charcoal that pair with black plum, cassis and black currant. It’s a quality, promising wine but hold it at least another half decade to see it at its best.
