    November 17, 2019 - Restaurant situation so basically a quick double decant and straight to pour. Loads of blackberry and strawberry combined with brambles and a little bit of smoke as initial aromas. Taste started a little straightahead chewy dark berries. Very strong chalky smell and texture. Over the course of an hour this developed wonderfully, going from strength to strength as it got more air. A wider palette of fruits over time, adding blueberry and cherry to the flavor mix. Slight note of pepper. Tons of very silty tannins. More and more impressed as the evening went on.
    Right now this needs maybe 2 hrs or more in a decanter to approach. It will come across as very dumb straight out of the bottle. Built to last; this will be rewarded with at least a decade in the crypts, and probably more. A great effort. Big shout out to the sommelier who recommended this as I never would have picked out an expensive Douro by myself.
    Score:94-95 and probably going up in a decade.
    Relative to expectations:++
