December 27, 2019 - From magnum and served at the big family blow out event. This was next to a mag of fontanfredda barolo so everyone could see between the king and queen of nebbiolo. I've always felt like this producer was fine, but perhaps not been as enamored as others. I will say this drank quite well. Good young. Bottles were opened a few hours before pouring but not decanted. I enjoyed it but not sure I'd actively seek out. Got these because they were a good deal on mags and we had a big group of folks for the evening.

1/2/20, 8:10 AM - How did it compare to the Fontanafredda? Was it one of their Cru or their Serralunga d'Alba?

1/2/20, 8:15 AM - It was a Serralunga d'Alba. I was very impressed with the Fontanafredda which was half of the price and I'd say extremely competitive with the Produttori. Was a mix of preferences on which performed better. To me they were about the same (and given the 2x price differential, that means Fontanafredda). Then again, Produttori is a producer that I don't seem to 'get' like some others do so that could have contributed.

1/2/20, 8:57 AM - Thanks for sharing. I have, for the most part, been fairly happy with my Fontanafredda experienced even though there are many who think they are one of the great underachievers due to their incredible holdings and relatively unremarkable wines. As far as Produttori is concerned, they are easily one of my favorite producers in all of Piemonte and I find them to be one of the great values in the wine world however, their Riservas as good as they are, don't present the same sort of value as their Barbaresco "classico" and even their standard Langhe Nebbiolo is quite stunning considering it can often be had sub $20.

1/2/20, 9:11 AM - That's part of the fun of wine, something for everyone. And I get that the Produttori are well made, but they seem to be missing something for me. We've had great luck with really old Fontanafredda (like 50's and 60's). This might be my first younger vintage. I always thought they were a producer that didn't exist anymore and then we saw the mags available and had a big group for dinner so it was a great fit.
