January 5, 2020 - Young vines planted 2007 presents a full profile wine with concentrated fruit and the small amount of new oak used is, at first, very present. After some air the oak takes on a more integrated role. Yellow mature apples, toast, butter, tropical fruit like physalis and melon, popcorn and a soothing ocean breeze that promises seashell and minerals. This wine went through two phases for me, at first clumsy, buttery and bit heavy. Then, with 30 minutes of air the wine comes together and finishes of in a rather fresh style with nicely tuned acidity to balance out the abundance of fruit and oak that first present itself. Long aftertaste, deep and complex whispering of huge potential. Not my favorite label from Sandhi '16 but still a classy wine.
