February 6, 2020 - Dark ruby fruit - blackberry, currants/cassis, dark raspberry, and dark cherry. Really smooth, nice purity, and decent depth/concentration, however, I thought the last bottle a couple months ago showed a little more depth/concentration - medium/medium plus body. Nice vibrant flavors of dark berries, some baking spices/licorice, and a little cocoa. Solid finish but not overly long nor deep. Popped/poured but drank out of a decanter for a couple hours. Improved a little with time but drinking quite well right away despite its youth. As usual, a nice QPR. 100% cab.

2/6/20, 6:49 AM - I agree your note on this wine and as we expressed on the string, very good, but just a tad less expressive as the last bottle. Still young and on a journey that we will follow and enjoy along the way.

2/6/20, 10:05 AM - Up through the 2015 vintage I believe the Las Piedras and Kenefick Ranch fruit really carried this wine. As you noted as well before, I thought the 2016 vintage took a little step back without the Las Piedras fruit. This vintage appears to be back on a better path, however, I believe there is now some McGah/Scarlett fruit along with the Kenefick Ranch and Pellet. I believe the McGah/Scarlett and Pellet fruit need some time to develop. Interesting to me how approachable young the 2013 through 2015 vintages of the Scarlett cab were. The 2016 & 2017 vintages appear to be built a little different and need some time. Although I need to revisit the 2017 Scarlett to see where it is at - it has been a little while from my last bottle.
