March 14, 2020 - One of a dozen bought on release. Decanted for a couple of hours.
Perfect cork, good deep colour but slight browning.

On the nose it is superb: classic mature Pauillac with plenty of fruit, tobacco and a slight smokiness which is very intriguing. On the palate it is medium bodied, perfectly integrated again with good fruit and an agreeable freshness. There is still some tannic backbone but it is not obtrusive. The aftertaste is exceptionally long. Overall an elegant, mature claret which is perhaps slightly understated.

I think it is at its plateau of full maturity now, but it should stay there for a good while yet.

Like most 2000s they were very tannic then, but the tannins do now seem to have softened. I'm finding this with other 2000s: after a long period where I was wondering whether they'd ever soften before the fruit faded, they do now seem to be getting there.
