    April 3, 2020 - 82 Latour vs 86 Lafite
Decanted 1 hour. I think the slow ox is better strategy. The decant method started out well, but the wine seemed to fall apart and become bitter after about 45 minutes of drinking.
Very dark red for its age.
Powerful nose, but quite vegetal and herbal.
Lots of Herbs, mint, rosemary , cranberry, sour cherry.
2nd component leather, vegetal, a little bitter, a bit of prune, even a bit of lemon zest. The Lafite seems to have more growth potential than the Latour, but the Latour was by far the better wine IMO.

4/3/20, 4:46 PM - Your notes took me back to my memories of this wine...The falling part comment is quite honest, though its hard to admit when you pay 1,200 a bottle. I remember lying to myself as I was not really enjoying it...:-) Cheers and thanks for the comparison!

4/3/20, 6:23 PM - Thank you for the comment. Yes, it was a bit of a bummer. I do like this wine, but it might not be in a good spot right now. I normally use slow oxidation method, which works OK, but a decant I believe shocked the wine, which subsequently helped it fall apart. At least that is what I believe happened. When I have slow oxd these wines for 5 or more hours in the past they tend to drink better than the decant. I was trying something new with the decant, but it did not work. Cheers!
