Community Tasting Note

April 11, 2020 - Very pronounced tannins with an underlying smoothness that is truly something special. Graphite and plum with a never ending finish, this wine is structured in a way to develop into a 98-99 point wine over time. Slow ox for 6 hours, yet the wine was still constrained by the dominating tannins that never eased up. This wine with patience is destined for greatness.

4/11/20, 8:17 PM - I could only get hold of one bottle of this. How many years of patience do you think is needed to rate it 98+?

4/11/20, 9:39 PM - If I had only one bottle I would wait 7-10 years to open it. However, if this is too long of a timeframe I would wait at least 5 years.

4/13/20, 5:33 AM - We did a Spottswoode tasting last year at Pappas Steakhouse and it was pretty awesome experience. 16, 15, 10 & 96. 2010 was amazing & so was 16 at this stage. I'm think 2016 will eclipse this at year 10. 15 had more acid but will balance out with bottle age. 14 might be the vintage to chase if you like them a bit younger.

    Thanks for the notes TXRDW!

4/13/20, 6:38 AM - Thanks, MJP for the insight on the various Spottswoode vintages. This was the first time for me to try Spottswoode and I am now a big fan. 2016 is shaping up to be quite the vintage for quite a few wines.

4/13/20, 6:49 AM - Thank you MJP for mentioning '14 & '15 vintages, which I have two bottles of each. However, I could not get my hand on more than one bottle of '16 before it disappeared from stores.
