  April 27, 2020 - Opened as the last wine by Mark1NPT after a wonderful steak meal and several very good and interesting wines. Felt it was course and slightly jammy compared to the Arkenstone gems we had prior. Fruit was best on opening then seemed to fade to black. My palette was fairly fatigued toward the end and Carters are always made in a much more fruit forward style, but in the end I just wasn't impressed. Once again 2017-- bah humbug.

  4/28/20, 9:56 PM - Agree with your notes completely.....but I saved a little for the 2nd and 3rd nights. Notes are up. Yes, it went down considerably after our first hour with it but it was actually better the last 2 nights. I have never seen a wine start out with red/blue/black fruit......go all black/tarry/bitter after an hour or two but then lighten back up the 2nd or 3rd nights. Really weird. It also never developed that old, stale, flat taste that most wines do when they are open overnight or one day too long in the bar. Makes me wonder what's in this to preserve it so well for the 2nd, 3rd nights. I just put the cork back in the 2/3rds empty bottle, no argon, no vacuum, nothing.

  9/15/20, 6:55 AM - I drank my last remaining Quivet LPV, and it was VERY underwhelming. I have been holding onto this bottle hoping that it would get to a good place (only bought 1), but it sounds like there may be no reason to do that. I did end up stocking up on a lot of 2018s (for my standards) from Mike Smith, and others.
  
  Should I hold on to this bottle hoping that better days are ahead? Or just open it up and make space for the 2018s....?

  9/15/20, 4:27 PM - Jazz, I think I have only 1 '17 Carter left, I've been drinking them up. Still have a couple '16s and now the '18s to fall back on. I personally am drinking my '17 cabs. The '17 pinot and chard seem to be ok having escaped some of the big heat and all of the fires/smoke. I'll keep them for a few years and enjoy. This wine really took and 2nd and 3rd day to fill out and perform for me, personally......and I almost NEVER keep a wine overnight or 2-3 days. That's a mortal sin in my heart.
