May 7, 2020 - A fascinating wine from Priorat in Catalunya, west of Barcelona and just inland from Tarragona.
Grapes are Garnatxa (Grenache) & the quite rare Picapoll Negre (Picpoul Noir) from very low yielding vines, at just 1kg per vine.
The wine is made in 3rd use French oak where it spends a short time on its lees before it’s bottled unfiltered and un stabilised.
Deep raspberry red, quite pronounced with aromas and flavours of strawberries, raspberries, red plums with faint hints of vanilla, toast, meat and a slight farmyard funk.
Fermented fully dry with medium + acidity, medium; ripe, drying, tannins, 13.5% alcohol is perfectly integrated and hardly noticeable, almost full bodied, full in the mouth with flavours that linger long.
Would be awesome with grilled Mediterranean fish
