Community Tasting Note

  • gouldcampbell77 Does not like this wine: 85 points

June 3, 2020 - Disappointing. Two bottles from an impeccable source with consistent notes. Mid gold. Light but insistent bead. Very balanced and mellow but with that unmistakable wet cardboard/wet wool thing going on that I simply cannot bear in Champagne. Why anyone would want to make, let alone drink, something that tastes and smells like a wet spaniel is beyond me. Abandoned the whole thing half way through the second bottle and switched to Laurent Perrier Rose NV for the rest of the evening which was by contrast light, delicate lifted and beautifully fruity. I must be missing something. Either that of the Emperor really isn't wearing any clothes.

6/4/20, 12:00 AM - Several years ago I had this bottle with a group of friends who each brought a ‘splurge’ bottle of champagne. It was a ‘wow’ moment for me, and the first time I truly enjoyed an older vintage champagne. However it was also showing some age, and maybe it’s passed now based on your note.

I've drank this wine at least 5-6 times and only the very oldest releases with the old label were a bit doubtful in quality. But it's been a while since I've checked in on my newer bottles.
