June 3, 2020 - Decanted 1hr. Muted nose of darker fruits, olive and liquorice. Medium+ palate with similar fruits and savoury elements. Low acidity and still young tannins. Very dry finish. Not quite integrated yet. Needs 3-4 more years. Not a QPR wine.

I have enjoyed their Brett edition, which is mostly Syrah, but was not able to locate this monster…PV dominant?

    Solid review!

6/4/20, 6:39 PM - Hey KJ, this wine was found squirrelled away in the cellar room of the Tudor House liquor store back in April (20% off all wines PLUS another 5% off on mixed cases). It is 2/3 Touriga Nacional dominant w Syrah, PV and Cab Sauv making up the rest. I do like a Brett-ish Syrah - my favourite of all time, Spinifex Indigene from Heathcote region in Australia. Magical.

Spinifex is now on my radar...Many thanks, Darren!

7/14/21, 10:55 AM - Hi Romol, it’s a good question. I purchased two bottles of this wine. And have only the first one. I checked the cellar and It’s label is predominately a black wrap around with embossed gold links like you’d see with chain mail. The back of the label indicated “Reserva 2015” but the abv is 15% not 15.5% as you cite yours is composed of. There seems to be only one 2015 Arrepiado Reserva listed on CT. I can upload my back image for reference. I’m glad you had a better tasting experience than I did. I’ll see how mine shows in a couple of years from now. Love to hear if you’ve tasted other great Portuguese table reds. Still looking for something to compare or exceed Vale Meao.

7/14/21, 1:09 PM - Hi Canoehead, according your descripion I think your bottle is the "2015 herdade do Arrepiado Velho collection red" (it's also in Cellartacker if you spell it like this). This wine here is the "Amma" and it is (at least for me) on a different level of quality. The label looks like the first foto in Cellartracker. I checked again the label, the Amma has 15.5 ABV. I don't have a lot of experience with wines from Portugal but there are some I really like. Quinta do Vale Meao Douro (for me one of the best wines of Portugal) an other very speacial wine is the "Adega da Cartuxa Pera Manca". The "Quinta Vale D. Maria Douro C.V. ("Curriculum Vitae")" is also pretty good. I hope this helps.
