July 15, 2020 - For context, I had this after one of my all time favs, the 2001 Leroy Richebbourg and it was a stunning example at that. Having come down from that rarefied air, this thing stood right with it. Every bit as ethereal as the Leroy but without the mellowing effect of age, very attractive nose, another wine you don't need to drink to enjoy, there is a lot going on, the depth that you can only get a glimpse of today is positively astounding. This feels like it will be better than the 2001 Leroy Richebourg when it comes of age. On the palate, you immediately sense the silkiness of the tannins before even the taste, the way it coats your tongue. Insane! loads going on behind the dark berries, spices, but only hints. this thing is going to need time and I'm looking forward to seeing it through the phases.
