August 4, 2020 - I was a bit hesitant to order this given age and vintage. The restaurant bought those on release and they had been sitting in their cellars since 78 according to the sommelier. The level was a bit low - mid shoulder. Cork came out crumbling. The wine was impeccable. From the first sip it was surprisingly “clean”, quite refined, a wonderful nose of assam tea, earth, mineral laced. The palate wasn’t stingy either. A measured well balanced wine, showcasing this nice terroir. A lesson in why you age wine but also how you must age it if you want to reap the proper rewards - unmoved for decades. Surely not so well stored bottles will not be even half as enjoyable. At the end there was tons of sediment btw. Very fine and totally overshadowed a nice Rousseau CSJ 02 side by side.
