August 13, 2020 - Wow, this bottle demonstrates that my last one (an 88) was an anomaly and that the previous ones (92s) had been revealing the “truth” about this wine all along. This was decanted for three hours, but even that wasn’t enough, as it was much better - and fabulous - on night two. It is a dark, transparent wine, showing very little age at the edges, with aromas of dark fruits, notably plum and blackberry, and a persistent and intoxicating spiciness. It is savory and sappy, with a medium-body, a great structure provided by its acid and tannins, and a long bittersweet finish. IMHO most people who buy this wine are not giving it enough air to really discover its joys. I would recommend a 24-hour double-decant or even just a 24 hour decant in an upright decanter so as not to exaggerate the aeration. Outstanding QPR. I am kicking myself for already drinking nine from my case; I should have saved them all for the 2020-2030 window. Proof that we don’t need to spend a lot of money to enjoy great wine.
