scyrene Likes this wine: 91 points
August 28, 2020 - One of the very few big house vintages available in supermarkets here, i've heard good things about the 2012, so seeing it on offer it seemed a good time to try, even though this is far younger than I prefer to drink champagne. Pale lemon colour. Clean, primary aroma with delicious cooked apple and butter. Astonishing concentration on the palate, this really is a vintage quality wine. Strong sour apple taste, good balance of ripeness, a whisper of plum skin just short of bitterness. I can see why people have been speaking so highly of this - it's excellent. With air, a mature pastry note develops, then a distinctive and pleasant waft of butter mint and crème fraîche(!). Good value at present, and surely has the guts to continue improving for 20 years or more, definitely recommended. [Cork + cage; 12% abv; Sainsbury's, on offer @ £44].
