August 28, 2020 - This should get an extra point just for the beautiful label, but we’ll stick to the juice. To a certain point, which style of Condrieu floats your boat is a purely subjective choice. This is wonderfully crafted, just not my particular style: it’s has terrific peach skin and barely ripe apricot flavors, , exotic white flowers and warm baking spices. But it’s a bit heavy, a little flat in the midpalate, and it’s just slightly “oily” in its texture, lanolin like. Has just enough acidity to keep it fresh, and the long stone pit finish brings you back for more. I drank Vernay 2017 this week and scored it a few points higher, because it had more elegance, more vibrant energy, despite being less rich. Try them together and see the difference. Throw in a Qupe CA viognier, and appreciate the range of styles this varietal offers, contrary to hype. It was great w roast stuffed poussin , but had me longing for just a bit more edginess.
