  December 4, 2020 - This is a wonderful wine, but it it not really ready to drink. Last time, in spring 2019 it showed better, perhaps due to a longer decant, and I elected to try it again now, and found it very tight and a little closed with mostly dark berries and earthy tones. After around three hours it started to open up, to show notes of strawberries, anise, furcoat, leather. We drank this alongside a Gros Frere Echezeaux 2014, which was a lot more fragrant and seemed the more mature wine. In fact, tasting them blind, I noted that the Clos Vougeot 2005 seemed young! the mouthfeel however, is impressive, and the sweet fruit, power and persistence of this wine was even better than the Echezeaux. Wait around 5 more years for this.
