January 30, 2021 - Davyd's bday at Dakota poolside. Already poured into decanter to air for 3 hours. Totally shut down! Showing zilch on the nose, utterly shut! I decided to takeaway and let my 150ml portion sit overnight in the wine chiller.
Got up at 6am to taste. Carefully followed it over 1 hour as it warmed up in Grassl 1855 glass.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose timid light intensity, with bare bits of cedar, light herbs, cassis, blackberries, black cherries, dark red plums. Opening up with air in the glass into red berries, dark liqueur ink, some floral spice, and then very nice iodine scents. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), very silky fine medium+ tannins, slowly but surely mouth-filling full body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of dark red plums, redcurrant, hints of black fruit, cassis, cedar. Long finish. Very poised.
So painfully tight and primary now. Top quality appreciable now is probably the sensuous mouth-feel texture. Rest of the material is just waiting for future (glacial) development.
Big waste of money to have popped this and anytime soon...another 8-10 years at least.
