April 30, 2021 - 3 days in Napa: Arkenstone, Memento Mori, Maxem, The French Laundry, Christopher Tynan, Kinsman, Harlan, Vice Versa, Accendo, Fairchild, Macdonald, and a truckload of others (Napa): My second time trying this wine (since 12/07/2019), the 2017 MG carries interesting plum and muddled blackberry flavors complimented by red/purple licorice, vanillin black cherry, and some dark spice notes. On the final sips, an herbal tinge added interest. This is a notably complex 2017 in the making that needs (like all MGs) time in bottle to fully come together. Displaying a more red/purple fruit profile (compared to previous vintages), the 2017 maintains its freshness with poise and channeled penetration. This is one of the few 2017s coming out of Napa that I will actually be looking forward to adding to my cellar. 95+ points. A wine to lay down for another 7-10+ years, though it does show an approachable side to it with some extended swirling in the glass. An especially worthy food wine indeed.

5/14/21, 1:55 PM - Did Christopher state when the 2017 allocation would be released. Mine usually shows up by April 29 and haven’t heard a word and no email address to contatct him i cant find anywhere.

5/14/21, 2:10 PM - If memory serves, he said the allocations would come out this Fall for the 2017 MG. I know 2016 came out in February 2020, but I think with COVID and all, everything was pushed off a bit for his 2017 release.

5/14/21, 2:15 PM - Thank you that makes sense as the 2015’s I believe were released in the fall. Appreciate the answer.

5/14/21, 2:18 PM - No worries. His 2017 is one of only a few I have/will be investing in from Napa. Happy hunting!

8/23/21, 12:34 PM - Tried a 12 NV a couple months ago and really liked it. Just received the waitlist offer but after purchasing 2 3 packs of Kinsman a couple weeks ago can only do either the 17 syrah or the Cab/Syrah blend did you by chance taste those as well. Thanks

8/23/21, 12:54 PM - I only tasted the MG of Tynan’s 2017 vintage so far. If you’re not going for the MG, the Judge Syrah is always solid as well.

8/23/21, 1:06 PM - Csimm1161-Thanks. I asked another friend and he also said to go with the Syrah. He tasted the 17 and said it was spectacular, just needs some 3-5 years bottle age.

8/23/21, 1:23 PM - Tynan’s wines definitely deserve time. The Syrah is usually 5-7+ years out and the MG 8-10+ years. Generally speaking depending on vintage characteristics of course.

8/23/21, 2:03 PM - Thanks, just ordered a 3 pack of the Judge.
