May 14, 2021 - This is one of the best value Cabernets I’ve had lately. Superb varietal character; I should note that there are definitely plenty of pyrazines in here - this isn’t one for fans of plush ripe Cabernet. Gorgeous sweet dark fruit plays well with the green character, which presents as fresh and lively rather than unripe. Buuuuut if you don’t like green bell pepper you may be disappointed. Tannins are quite firm and the aromatics are muted at first - this needs some serious time or air to show its colors. 90 minutes of decanting later this is throwing its perfume everywhere. Well structured, well made, serious wine, and yet another piece of evidence that Coonawarra is the best value play in Cabernet. After all that praise, why only 90 points? Well, there’s a little unevenness to the palate, and as much as I like my veggies, this is a touch greener than I’d ideally like. But also it’s just too young to really know. Worth waiting another 5 years before opening any more. 14%, $18. 90+
