  May 18, 2021 - Needed only an hour to hit its stride.....soft, feminine mouthfeel, gentle aging components of light garnet color and ever so subtle aged red fruit.....nose of pronounced sage/herbs....takes almost 3-4 hours to lessen. This is in a very good place right now. I don't see it getting any better from here. 93 bordering on a 94.....

  5/20/21, 11:48 AM - wine-e.......most of the '13s are just as you said. Some are still a bt dark, harsh and not yet ready to drink. This bottle, for whatever reasons, had lighter garnet red fruit and a very soft refined mouthfeel compared to the harsher, darker '16 B Cellars Ehrlich we were drinking alongside it. I was very surprised. This is the reddest, softest Napa '13 I can remember having.
  Maybe it suffered from warm storage early in its life before I acquired it and maybe that pushed it along to maturity a little quicker? That's almost what it seemed like to me.

We opened one for dinner last night and my main complaint with it was I found it "heavy" in my mouth, very different from the "soft, feminine mouthfeel" you described from almost 3 years ago. I totally trust you as a taster/reviewer, so it just makes me grin at how very elusive it is to aptly describe a particular wine when it can vary so much from from bottle to bottle, due to a million separate factors. But, we keep soldiering on! (And having fun doing it.). I guess that's what makes our "hobby" of wine tasting, drinking and commenting so interesting. Cheers!

  2/3/24, 6:53 AM - Hey GJ! I appreciate the kind words. As I noted in a comment, this bottle was def redder fruited and soft. Maybe it suffered from some form of oxidation? In any event these living/breathing animals never cease to amaze me with how they change through the years. If I remember correctly, I do think their Howell Mtn designate entry is a darker and heavier version most of the time compared to their NV version but I stopped drinking these a while back so don't know what they're like now!
