To be honest not my cup of tea. Would not buy again.

In my experience with Loire Chenin’s, they tend to be full bodied and have petrol characteristics on pop and pour. You pretty much need to treat these as red wines and decant, and quite frankly most of them (and all Huet’s) are better the second day in my opinion. (The petrol notes partially blow off).

5/29/21, 8:08 AM - First off, thank you for your thoughts on this, it is really appreciated.

I had indeed expected the Petrol, and that does not bother me. I think what caught me by surprise was that I thought the wine was almost syrupy. I will certainly decant if i purchase again. As for sweetness, I probably should have done a bit more research, but to borrow a scale from Riesling, I was expecting something on the order of maybe a Spatlese (maybe close to a Kabinett side of the scale), and instead got something that reminded me more of an an Auslese.

    just my personal thoughts...

5/29/21, 11:12 AM - I have never fully figured out the Riesling labels, but I thought they referred to how ripe the grapes were, not how much residual sugar you ended up with. Of course, if the grapes were not ripe you can’t end up with a super sweet wine, and I general spatlese’s are slightly sweeter than kabinett’s, but could be completely dry.. it just depends on how they make them. The Huet Moelleux’s are in the 40-60g of sugar/ Liter range. I looked up a few German Riesling’s (JJ Prum, Donnhoff) but could not find the sugar content. I did find that that Dr L Riesling was 43g/L. I think the Riesling’s you like might just have higher acidity to compensate, which makes it taste less sweet. The Huet Demi-Secs, which is what I usually drink, are in the 20-25g/L range.
