May 23, 2021 - This is a milestone 1000th tasting note posted here on CT ... exciting stuff

Been on a string of up and down wines some good some bad some surprisingly good and some very disappointing it was time to reward my palate and come in with heavy artillery this wine was not that plan as it was a whim decision but the 2016 Saunders killed it anyway I’m glad I opened it. The heavy artillery still awaits

PNP and into the decanter initial notes on open Initial nose of crushed raspberries blueberries dirt earthy notes some spice a little boozy on the nose One of the lighter colored Bevan Wines I’ve ever had

Juicy fruit profile black raspberry red raspberry very good sort of a clipped finish Great mouth feel very silky just glides over the pallet medium to long finish

No hard edges the tannins seem tamed but seems to be lacking the acid associated with the higher pitch fruit profile Bevan Wines. Given the location, very similar profile to Dalla Valle which is a compliment

Great start 95 with no air

At 30 minutes the wine is just as good showing more earthy herbal elements dare I say almost like a Bordeaux delicious spiced plum charred pine embers touch of brandy 95 points and holding

At 60 minutes, the nose becomes more expressive sort of a fruity perfume but in the background the earthy notes persist. I would say the nose gives away a sense of place unlike any wine I’ve ever smelled before this is so much better and frankly very different than the 2015 Saunders I had last year the surprise benefits me

The palate is complex the fruit the earth in herbal notes are all in harmony tenants in the background oak is integrated I’m not sure if I’m drinking a restrained Napa or a Bordeaux from a warmer year...I don’t care it’s simply delicious

At 90 min and 2 hrs this didn’t improve further. 96 for now with room to run 97-98 in 2-3 yrs.

This drank better at cellar temperature 55 to 65F, above which the brandy notes said hi

Agree with prior notes that this seems to lack enough acid to be a long-term ager for me —not an issue I don’t think these will last that long in my cellar but, these can sit in the cellar another 10 years no concerns. Now, they’re so good why leave them in your cellar?
