June 20, 2021 - 2005 Silver Oak Cabernet Taste-Off: Decanted for about 45 minutes. The color was a medium violet to a faded rim. Mostly red fruits on the nose, with an earthy note. The medium bodied palate showed mostly red fruits, with some earthy notes, and a touch of spice. The acidity was nicely balancing. Could hold for several more years, but I doubt that it will improve, and could certainly begin to deteriorate (as some TNs have noted). So, drink up.
This bottle was held under "perfect" conditions since purchase at the winery in 2012. At 15 years old, it is a reasonable, but not WOW, Cabernet. A scan of previous TNs and scores shows that this wine has consistently held itself within a relative range around it's current average. This may mean that the variety of scores is more a function of storage conditions, aeration, and individual palate, than of the wine itself.
See the 2005 Napa Valley Cabernet TN for comparison.
