July 3, 2021 - Removed from a 55 degree active cabinet, splash aerated to a wide bowl decanter, and let sit for 1 hour at room temperature.
The nose on this adolescent is tantalizing. It exudes refinement, sensuality, and a sense of precision. Ripe cassis, blackberry, cinnamon stick, menthol, and birch essence welcome you. Over time it reveals some plum skin and a melange of red fruit.
On the palate, the wine offers a burst of flavors that command your attention. Like a gorgeous and intelligent woman in a peacock blue leather dress that enters a crowded room; you just can't help but turn your head and appreciate the beauty. Stewed blackberry, tobacco, dark plum, and bitter chocolate entice the senses. Rendered more in a Bordeaux style ( think Cos D'Estournel/Ducru B ), the wine balances overt pleasure with beautiful restraint. Tannin management is superb with that trace of salinity on the back end that I seek in higher caliber wines.
I think this can easily blossom for another 5 years. A previous poster commented that this wine requires contemplation and thought. I could not agree more......2 people found this helpful 2,004 views
