July 18, 2021 - From Imperial! Opened without problem with a well used and flexible Durrand opener. Cork fully saturated but still in good shape. Lovely ruby, velvety look to the wine on first pour. Totally open, Merlot plum pie flying out of the glass. Poured 2 bt equivalent into decanter and left the rest in the big boy as I don’t think it needed much air and instead needed to relax given it was been locked up in the bottle for 26 years.
Really delicious, mid-weight classic Bordeaux. Not a blockbuster and before the days of excess heat and ripeness. Couldn’t be a wine other than from Bordeaux. Great subtle leather, chocolate, truffle, soil and undergrowth notes to the just about ripe and healthy fruit. Acidity is present so keeping it fresh but I think this is at or past its peak so drink them up before the acidity overwhelms the remaining fruit. Really does bring a smile to your face and lovers of Burgundy will like this wine even more as it has a lot of power without too much substance, so much flavor and is really thought provoking on the nose and palate as there is so much there and it is open enough to work it all out!
