July 27, 2021 - A local friend hasn’t had much Bevan, and wanted to try a bottle to go along with a 2017 Kinsman Eades Rhadamanthus and a 2014 Schrader CCS, so I opened this (along with a 2015 Arkenstone SB).

My second time with this wine since our Bevan visit a few years ago, and is consistent with previous experiences. I pop and poured this, and then enjoyed from a decanter the next two hours. Whereas the normal Bevan Tench was feminine in style (loads of sexy fruit, which I know is a trademark of all Bevan wines), this has all of the big fruit but wrapped in smoked meat, herbal and savory notes, like pipe tobacco and graphite. Finish was draped in baked blueberries and blackberries cruising on for a good while. I was able to save the last third of the bottle under vaccuseal and revisited two days later and there wasn’t much change, just an even more silky profile. Consistently delicious wines.

Also, the 2014 Schrader CCS was nice but had a fair bit of EA on the nose, so it’s hard to fairly rate. 2017 Kinsman Eades Rhadamanthus was double decanted the day before and while a towering wine, had a gorgeous mid palate with a cool blue fruit profile I love. Phenolically sexy, but no question needs a lot of time.
