Community Tasting Note

July 10, 2021 - Terrific muscadet. Didnt take any notes, but enjoyed it very much (But didnt undertand what the hoopla was about. Other Muscadets from Domaine del Pepiere or even other good producers like Luneau-Papin etc. are also very good. Why is this one allocated?)

8/15/21, 9:32 AM - Where is Briords allocated? I've never had a problem buying as much as I wanted. That said, I suspect it's the combination of quality and value that makes it much in demand. I find it much, much better than the wines of most other muscadet producers. I do find the higher end Pepiere wines better but they are also more expensive and sometimes need a bit more time; with the caveat that they also drink better for longer while, IMO, Briords is best relatively young.

8/15/21, 3:35 PM - Thank you for your comment sleepyhaus. I have never been able to buy it prior to 2019. I remember reading in an online forum sometime back that it is now allocated in some places. Good to know that this drinks better young!

8/16/21, 8:42 AM - I've never had a problem finding it online and overall quantities are fairly large, but it might be hard to source in some markets (e.g., I've never seen it for sale locally but my local market is not exactly strong). I should add that some people like this wine with some age, but I much prefer it young. I want sharp acidity, citrus, and some salty/briny character in Muscadet and find those qualities are best in this wine when it's within 3-4 years of vintage. After that I find the acidity mellows and nothing particularly interesting is gained in exchange, but others disagree. The Pepiere Chateau Thebaud, OTOH, drinks well for longer and to me that shows it to be a much better wine. The '14 is killer right now.

I have not had any Muscadet with a lot of age on it; from what little I tasted, I am increasingly thinking that I like my Muscadet young. Thank you once again for your detailed response!
