September 18, 2021 - FIL came in town, so we pulled a hot young thing (‘15 Myriad Elysian Dr. Crane) and this mature elegant beauty queen. Opened and into the decanter. Notes of funk and fall forest floor emanated from the decanter. Only minor bricking on the edges.

Checked in first at a little under 4 hrs. This is a deep viscous powerhouse, easily visually confused with Napa but for the nose. Sweet delicious BDX nose of earthy dirt, funk, crushed blackberries and mushrooms. On the palate, still young and somewhat tannic structured. Cassis, blackberry, black cherry and complimentary hints of red raspberry and red cherry. Even with the decant, still much sediment to be found. 96 for now, needs more air.

At 5 hr, a touch of mint, spice box and burnt embers appear complimenting the prior notes. The palate does has flattened a bit becoming a little more linear with a bit more tannic bite. Still 96.

At 6 hrs when the Flannery filets were ready, this showed it bests and raced ahead of the competition. The hard edges gone everything in unison. A horse race, won at the stretch.

In this face to face battle, it’s a draw. Napa lovers will claim the Myriad won, BDX lovers will claim it was never close and the Pavie won. I just had two great wines—who cares what they think?
