Community Tasting Note

  • kevrob822 Does not like this wine: 83 points

October 18, 2021 - I’ve now had 3 (of 4 🤦🏼‍♂️) bottles of this wine now, and they have all been terrible! Seriously, Absolutely Awful!

This is as flat-footed as any CS I think I’ve ever had. Aroma is “not there” and hot to boot. Flavor has some black fruit, but is just so unbalanced, one-dimensional and flat.

I’m going to repost this review twice more, so that it properly reflects (at least in my opinion!!!) the 3 bottles I’ve had. Honestly, I hadn’t posted any reviews before as I thought, “oh, it’s me”, or “awww, it’s just this bottle”, or “I know the next one will be better”… well, I’m done covering this shiz up. This is horrible! I don’t think 5+ years wil help this swill! It’s not even spaghetti sauce-worthy! More then happy to field any differing opinions on this waste of grapes!

    #1 of 3 reviews.

11/4/21, 2:28 PM - Drinking a 2019 Reserve CS in 2021 and expecting anything different...come now! Give this wine 4-5 years in the cellar to be fair.

11/5/21, 3:02 PM - Cellarweasil - Oh, I completely agree, at least in part. Yes, a ‘19 CS is exceptionally young, and while I don’t profess to be any sort of “Wine Expert” in any way, shape, or form, I believe I have enough knowledge and experience to tell when a young wine has an opportunity for some serious improvement with some proper cellaring. I’ve already had many 2018 and 2019 wines that, while very young, have great balance, fruit, body, and life. You can tell they’re well-built, with a excellent opportunity to be great… in due time. Sorry to say, this wine didn’t show any of that to me.

And hopefully you didn’t also put any additional “value” into this wine just because it’s label said “Reserve”. In some regions, Reserve on the label actually means something, but in other areas, such as the USA, it means Absolutely Nothing. As WineFolly.com states, “In the US, ‘Reserve’ doesn’t technically mean anything.” Here’s a link to their full story. Cheers! :-)

12/5/21, 5:49 PM - Are you sure it wasn’t cooked in the shipping process again? 😂. Cheers to better bottles!

12/6/21, 8:58 AM - @VinoHunter - that could be the case, but it just didn't taste like it was cooked, or off, it just didn't taste like it was good. Heck, I could have been having an off night too. Definitely "Cheers" to better (and more!) bottles!

12/6/21, 12:47 PM - If you have an off day, how can I trust your reviews anymore! 🤣. Cheers!

    12/6/21, 1:23 PM - LOL, good point, maybe you shouldn’t? 😂

12/8/21, 5:58 PM - I have a few bottles but don’t plan to touch any till 2024. If it doesn't show decent progress by then, I’ll be on your side. However there is 92 rating by someone else.

12/8/21, 6:22 PM - @Kentw - I don’t disagree with your thoughts on this puppy at all. I’m not keen on drinking a CS this young either, but when I buy several bottles, I always try one a couple of weeks after resting,Just to get a baseline. In this case, that 1st bottle showed such little opportunity… 🤷🏼‍♂️. That’s why there’s hundreds of wineries in Napa alone… different wines, for different folks.

7/28/22, 10:57 AM - Mmaronati, Consider yourself lucky that you don’t have one. 😉

What I find even crazier is that, according to CT, 46 bottles have been consumed, and other than my reviews, only one other member felt it was worth reviewing. I find that interesting, and possibly quite telling. 🤔
