October 19, 2021 - A bottle bought in auction earlier this year with a large section of the label missing and ullage 3.8cm from the cork. Double decanted and then taken with a new cork to share with Paul at Brasserie Blanc. Cork was strong if a little friable with no signs of seepage and came out in good condition, albeit in two parts. I last had this wine in 1994 when I noted the butterscotch on the finish and this along with anise have taken over the nose as well. Body had a surprisingly good weight of fruit especially when compared to the light 1970 Beychevelle last week. Still plenty of soft tannic backbone. This bottle had lost some of its nuance and complexity which may come back in time and good condition bottles kept in damp enough conditions will last for a long time yet.
