October 29, 2021 - Not my favorite red. The balance between acid, alcohol, and fruit is awkward. After recently expanding my exposure to much higher end wines, this one is just not in the same category and falls short of many of the wines we buy for under $20-30. The word ‘smooth’ is often how I describe incredible wines, and this wine is just not that. At close to $100/bottle, I cannot see myself ever buying a bottle of Napanook again. Im hoping the other wines from this famous vineyard don’t fall flat on my palate as this one did.

10/30/21, 5:20 PM - The 16 Napanook was fantastic when I had it in early 2019. When I had it again a few months ago, it was dead... I don't know if it shut down or if the tannins faded and it's flabby now.

10/30/21, 6:13 PM - Thanks for your comment gymnastpro- I felt terrible giving a wine from Dominus a less than stellar rating but you are spot on. Oddly, I left the remaining 2/3 bottle overnight and tonight it is miraculously much better. I think I’ll revise my score to an 85. Not that it means anything from little ‘ol me, but it is much better tonight. I’ve just never needed to decant a wine for an entire 24 hours to make it palatable. But admittedly, I’m a novice in this world. Have a great night
