November 21, 2021 - Red currants, hints of bay leaf, raspberries, fine grained tannins, finish was a bit short...was a little disappointed.

11/22/21, 6:14 AM - I have been surprised reading these reviews that these wines haven’t seemed to come around. Maybe they never will?

6/28/22, 9:47 PM - ‘12 just starting to drink really well in the last year. Almost certain that this bottling, this vintage will be stellar ‘24-25 with some air. The Decanting, and Aging, King.

Also pro ageing but I get influenced by all these baby drinkers…

6/29/22, 9:31 PM - I find Petroski’s wines for LM to consistently interesting, though sometimes difficult, especially when they’re younger (I know that there’s a lot of caviling on the site about raised prices, but I’m not sure that even at the higher numbers, they’re out of line with what you get compared to other producers). I just recently had a great ‘09 LMV Salon with lots of life left. I have a ‘14 Olmo that sounds like it’s nowhere near ready, short of serious decanting gymnastics. I have a couple of ‘16 Larks and a ‘16 Solari, and reports are that those have been drinking really well early, but do I really want to gamble on that for a $2-300+ wine that will almost certainly be amazing in 8-10 years, assuming I’m here to enjoy it?

6/30/22, 3:51 AM - SF I completely understand which is why I generally prefer to wait if I know a wine is long lived. So for a Montelena, I know a ‘12 or ‘14 just won’t be good so I don’t mind waiting, I don’t worry that I am going to miss it. I have had ‘94, ‘95 and ‘96 Montelena lately which have all been excellent. But for Larkmead I wasn’t aware they had that reputation on needing more than the typical Napa 6-8 years so I don’t know if it is not a great wine or if I should be waiting

6/30/22, 8:40 AM - That’s why we love CT, right, DQ? While I hate to generalize, I think most CTers aren’t super patient, so wines that are more rewarding of immediate drinking, like many Mike Smith, Kirk Venge or TRB wines, are so often scored higher than the Seaveys, Montelenas, Ridges, Larkmeads or many of the Tuscans I love.
